As a development manager I wear many different hats and report directly to senior management. My responsibilities include every aspect of application development as well as management of many in-house IT hardware & software systems. I regularly collaborate with our marketing account executives; attending customer presentations, preparing project cost estimates and assisting with proposal generation.
I have created a complete software development lifecycle (SDLC) project folder structure and supporting documentation asset templates based on the Software Engineering Institutes CMI/CMMI methodology. Like any process, these assets are continuously reviewed and revised to reflect new learning’s and the latest development methodologies and best practices.
Of course the process is only as good as the team implementing it and must be flexible enough to deal with unique or unanticipated situations. That’s where the People element comes into play and any successful implementation must be flexible enough to adapt to the specific project scope and resources available.
